Research about International Commercial Arbitration in Europe

Last week, JPM Partner Djordje Novčić, accepted the invitation and took part in the interview for research about arbitration in Europe (domestic and international).

Mr. Tony Cole, a Reader of International Arbitration and Investment Law at the University of Leicester, an arbitrator at JAMS, and a former CIArb Branch Chair extended the invitation. The research project titled “The Social and Psychological Underpinnings of Commercial Arbitration in Europe” is an interdisciplinary endeavor that spans multiple years. It involves not only arbitration specialists but also experts from sociology and psychology.

The project recommenced in 2022 with the support of various arbitral institutions. It is part of a larger research initiative funded by the U.K.’s Economic and Social Research Council, which has allocated £1 million over six years.

In Belgrade, Mr. Cole conducted a “focus group” interview with arbitration practitioners. This interview involved a small group of 2-4 leading specialists who provided their opinions on the practice and professional development of arbitration in Serbia. This engagement aimed to enhance the project’s understanding of arbitration as a field of practice, seeking a more comprehensive and intricate perspective.

We hope that Djordje’s participation in this research had a significant impact. We extend our gratitude to Mr. Cole for recognizing Djordje as a professional whose opinion holds value by inviting him to take part in the project.
