This is the 3rd set of information that we provide on four laws on mining and energy, that have been adopted by the Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. Our Senior Partner Dr Jelena Gazivoda, with Partner Nikola Djordjevic and Senior Associate Marko Mrdja give insight into amendments to the Law on Energy.

The amendments enable harmonization of domestic legislation with those of the European Union, ensure the safety of energy and energy supplies and, enable the introduction of new participants in the energy market. The changes to the law create the legal basis for the adoption of an Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan and further regulate and expand the powers of the Energy Agency of the Republic of Serbia.

It also improves transparency and protection of competition and consumers, as well as non-discriminatory behavior in the market.

By adopting this law, heat energy buyers will also be entitled to the status of an energy-threatened buyer and reduction in bills, if they meet the prescribed criteria, the same as electricity and gas customers already have. Electronic business (e-energy) is being introduced in the conduct of the Ministry, which will enable simpler procedures and faster licensing and consent.
