Amendments to the Law on Foreigners and the Law on the Employment of Foreigners

The new amendments to the Law on foreigners and the Law on the employment of foreigners, significantly simplify and shorten the procedure for employment of foreign citizens in the Republic of Serbia.

These amendments aim to increase the efficiency of the process, allowing foreigners to be employed in Serbia within a short period of time.

It is important to note that these amendments are in force starting from 4 August 2023, but some provisions will only be applicable from 1 February 2024.

In this article, JPM Senior Associate Katarina Savić is providing a comprehensive review of the key points about the amendments that include:

  1. Liberalization of conditions: The amendments relax the conditions for foreigners coming to work in Serbia, making it easier for them to obtain employment.
  2. Shortened procedure: The procedure for employing foreign citizens will be significantly shortened, reducing the time it takes for them to be employed in Serbia.
  3. Increased efficiency: The amendments contribute to the increased efficiency of the employment procedure, streamlining the process and making it more efficient for both employers and foreign workers.

These changes are part of a broader effort to attract foreign talent and investment to Serbia, making the country a more attractive destination for foreigners.
